“Pol. Gen. Kittirat Phanphet, the National Police Chief, expressed condolences and paid tribute to the two brave police officers from Yarang Police Station in Pattani Province, who were shot and killed by assailants while on duty. Special consideration will be given for their commendation, with the rank of Police Sergeant Major being promoted to ‘Pol. Col.’ and Police Corporal being promoted to ‘Pol. Lt. Col.’, along with initial financial assistance of over 2 million baht each.
On February 20, 2025, Pol. Maj. Gen. Worakrit Phisitbanakorn, the Commander of the Special Operations Division, revealed that the Royal Thai Police has lost two good officers due to the shooting incident involving police officers from Yarang Police Station in Pattani Province, who were killed while performing their duties. The incident occurred at approximately 11:25 PM on February 19, 2025, when Police Sergeant Major Decho Kheawkaew, the squad leader, and Police Corporal Songchai Chanthraphap, the squad leader, were on patrol in their assigned area on a police motorcycle after receiving complaints from residents about drug-related gatherings in an alley behind the Yarang Vehicle Inspection Station, Moo 3, Yarang District, Pattani Province. Upon arriving at the scene, a group of assailants opened fire on both officers, resulting in the deaths of Police Sergeant Major Decho and Police Corporal Songchai.
The Commander of the Special Operations Division stated that the Royal Thai Police and the Public Relations Division pay tribute to both brave officers who performed their duties as guardians of the peace to the best of their abilities, sacrificing their lives in the line of duty as police officers to maintain peace and combat crime in the southern border area until the very end of their lives. Pol. Gen. Kittirat Phanphet expressed his condolences to the families of both officers and ordered full support for their benefits.
In the case of Police Sergeant Major Decho Kheawkaew, the squad leader from Yarang Police Station in Pattani Province, he will receive initial financial assistance of 2,460,960 baht, with special commendation consideration for a salary increase of up to 7 steps and a promotion to ‘Pol. Col.’ Meanwhile, Police Corporal Songchai Chanthraphap, the squad leader from Yarang Police Station in Pattani Province, will receive initial financial assistance of 2,289,540 baht, with special commendation consideration for a salary increase of up to 7 steps and a promotion to ‘Pol. Lt. Col.'”
